General Information
I was called to the Bar in 2001 after graduating from the University of Victoria. I set up my own firm, Elaine M. Davies Law, in November 2007 and practice in the areas of family law, wills and estate law. Previous to going out on my own and subsequent to being qualified as a lawyer, I moved to Kamloops where I was employed by Crown Counsel and Family Maintenance Enforcement. I joined Carr Buchan and Company in 2004 shortly after returning to Victoria and remained with that firm until I set up my own firm. Prior to attending law school, I earned a M.A. in history from Concordia University in Montreal and then worked as a researcher and project manager on Aboriginal claims with the Department of Indian Affairs in Vancouver from 1992 until 1997. As part of my continued interest in research and writing, I self-published a book on the history of Gambier Island, a very successful collaborative project that stretched over a number of years and continues to generate sales. I chaired the Judicial Liaison Committee with the School District 61 Community Task Force on Crystal Meth (Victoria), am on call for the Victoria Family Caregivers Association as an adjunct legal counsel, acted as president for one year with a Victoria chapter of BNI, Referral Masters, and was very involved in my mother's care who died of Parkinsons but in her own home as per her wishes on June 27, 2010. In my spare time, I prefer to be outside working in my garden or walking my gorgeous Lab X or spending time with my spouse, Rick. As often as I can, I travel from my home in Victoria to access the family cabin on Gambier Island.
